Knoxville (WVLT) - Members of the community gathered to remember those affected by Sunday's shootings.
Even the thunder, lightening and torrential downpour couldn't keep hundreds away from the candlelight service at Second Presbyterian Church.
"I'm so proud of knoxville for doing what they've been doing for being so wonderful and so supportive," church member Cynthia White said.
People running in the rain to the program, many barefooted and soaked from head to toe, but afterwards, the rain stopped, but the tears kept flowing.
"At the end of the service they had kids singing the sun will come out tomorrow from Annie it was just really touching," church member Courtney Cunningham said.
More than a thousand people attended the emotional service. More than half the people who attended the were from different faiths.
"There were a number of members from our community there were Muslims there affiliations, non affiliations from a to z and that's what was nice thing about it," said Jeff Gubitz of the Jewish Community.
Inside at the service, reverend Bill Sinkford president of the Unitarian Universalist Association spoke to the congregation.
Plus they turned down the lights to remember those lost.
"It was extremely dramatic when the lights were dimmed and we lit all the candles," Gubitz said.
So where do the Unitarian members and the knoxville community go from here?
"All you can do is not continue with the hate and just share love with everyone try to forgive if you can," Cunningham said.
Forgive a man who took 2 lives, placed 7 more in the hospital during a quiet Sunday service.
There's a "service of hope and healing" Tuesday night at 6:30 at Saint Johns Lutheran Church on North Broadway. The public is invited to attend.
