MANCHESTER, Ky. (AP) -- A massive fire that broke out early Sunday destroyed a two-story building in downtown Manchester in southeastern Kentucky.

The town's assistant fire chief, Jamey Mills, says seven departments and 55 firefighters helped battle the blaze. The fire broke out about 2 a.m. EDT and was brought under control about eight hours later.

Mills says there were no deaths or injuries.

He says the state fire marshal's office, state police and Manchester police are investigating what caused the fire. Mills said the building housed one business -- a Social Security office -- and one apartment. The rest of the building was vacant.

Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading.
