KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Knox County School student is dead, and two school employees are on leave after a student dies days after an accident on school grounds.

But here's a key detail: Knox County deputies weren't notified of the accident for almost 24 hours.

The student, Eric Law, 17, died Monday morning.

The accident happened in the parking lot of Byington-Solway Career and Technology Center next to Karns High School around 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

Attorney Greg Isaacs is representing Eric Law's family.

He says his investigation shows the shop teacher received permission from the school principal to transport some tables from one place to another.

The police report explains Law was one of four students in the bed of a pickup truck driven by another student.

He fell out, striking his head on the pavement.

According to the report, his mother was called and she took him to Baptist West.

Isaacs says law suffered serious head trauma.

He declined an on camera interview on the incident saying only that his thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

But isaacs says it is troublesome that Knox County deputies weren't notified until Thursday around 2:30 p.m., just a few minutes shy of 24 hours.

David Boggan, an administrator at the technology center, and Doyle Shultz, a teacher, have been placed on administrative leave.

The accident is being investigated by both the school system and the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Why are we blaming the teacher? Why not blame the custodian for not going over there and getting the tables? Teachers are paid to teach not move furniture.

Teachers in Tennessee arent paid enough to care much less do their own work... Why do you think they had the students doing the work for them in the first place?? (Moving furniture). Prayers to the family of Eric Law..
