KNOXVILLE (WVLT) – Representatives of musical legend Dolly Parton deny rumors that the East Tennessee native has passed away.

Many concerned viewers and fans have called and written emails to the WVLT newsroom since Friday evening, explaining they heard the rumor that she had died at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center from congestive heart failure. A similar rumor has circulated on a pair of previous occasions over the last two years.

Parton, who was born in Sevier County, wrapped up the summer leg of her Backwoods Barbie concert tour on August 17th with a performance at Dollywood. She will take a two month break before resuming the tour in Orlando, Florida on October 18th.

Great Ambassador for East Tennesse! But, it is amazing to me her musical success. Her music does not appeal to me. I think Whitney Houston performed Dolly's biggest hit much better than Dolly.

Becky ur a dork dolly is pretty and talented. more than likely unlike you u are probably jealous of our hometown girl. I read somewhere on another news site that it came from a high school football game that someone made the annoucement on the intercom.

Thank jeebus that she is not dead. I about had a heart attack myself. She is such a beautiful lady and I must admit she is my role model. Also all these psychos that have been spreading these lies every two years that she is dead need to stop. My poor heart just can't take the pressure. I don't know the next time i may just join her if these people lie again. Dang how many times can she die and come back to life shes not a fricking cat with seven lives. But for now Shameeka out.

i think it is a shame that people told this awful lie because she is such a nice lady they should have counseling for a while so they will quit tellig this lie again

I am glad to hear that Ms. Parton is doing well. She is very kind and I can't believe that anyone would say such bad things about her.

Hateful comments like those of "Becky" at 10:48pm should be removed from this board. If you have legitimate criticism, leave that. But to use disgusting and malicious language like "no talent cow" is ignorant. I'm shocked that "Becky's" comment was approved for posting.

I really appreciate this article. Rumors have been spreading like wildfire and I'm glad to hear it cleared up. It's hard to believe that this had to originate from someone, somewhere....
