KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Flames erupted early Friday morning at the BP gas station on Raccoon Valley Road.
Rural Metro fire spokesman Billy Kear says firefighters from Heiskell, Powell, Halls, and Gibbs battled the blaze around 3:30 a.m.
"The building construction of the older BP station challenged the interior fire attack crews with very intense heat and blacked out smoke conditions," Kear says. "Fire crews were able to battle the tough conditions to overcome the advancing fire and extinguish the blaze."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
