WRAL-TV: Butch Davis again says he has no interest in Tennessee job

RALEIGH, NC (WVLT/WRAL) -- University of North Carolina head football coach Butch Davis once again told media in North Carolina this morning that he has no interest in the University of Tennessee job, according to CBS affiliate WRAL-TV.

“I have absolutely no interest in the University of Tennessee job,” Davis said on the ACC’s weekly conference call. “It’s a great job but I have no interest in it. I love being here, my family loves being at Carolina. With the administration, we‘re doing everything we can every single day to build a championship program here.”

I'm sorry, Spurrier was a great coach in his day but I'm afraid that football is starting to pass him up much the same as it passed Fulmer up. Both of these guys are great coaches and have done very well for the teams they have coached but all great things must come to an end. The game of football has just passed them up.

First i would like to say i bleed orange as much as any of you but i would have a hard time supporting a UT team coached by Spurrier.Second i don't see anybody out there that is beating down the door for this job nobody wants to be treated the way Hamilton treats his coaches.there is alot of problems up there so everybody needs to get used to losing for a while.Even if we do get a quility coach it's going to take time to get SEC talent back.

Spurrier knows Tennessee football better that anyone. He sure has BEAT'em for years. Give him the job of rebuilding this vols team.

Spurrier is obviously no longer the number one coach in the SEC. He hasn't been for a very long time. Of course, Butch Davis says he isn't interested. If he gets all hyped about the Tennessee job and doesn't get it, the people at Carolina won't think very highly of him anymore. Why on Earth would a program like Tennesse hire a coach from Maryville college? There is no way he could compete with the coaches at LSU, Alabama and Georgia!

Peyton Manning is your best choice. I know he plays for the colts. And makes alot of money. But lets face it. Everyone in Knoxville loves him. He knows the vols better than anyone. Payton can get the job done. He knows Tennesse Football. Look no futher Payton is our coach. He truly bleeds orange.

Hire Quarles from Maryville for $150,000. Discourage prima donna recruits from coming. Wait until the day after signing day. Hold open tryouts for all positions. Eliminate every one who doesn't show up wearing orange and who doesn't have a Tennessee drivers license. Require each player to be enrolled four years in a degree program which has a good chance of producing a decent job after graduation. Kick the "athletes" out of Gibbs Hall, and make them live among the general student population. Failing grades, one arrest for jaywalking, and they're off the team permanently.

Why would anyone ever want Steve Spurrier @ the University of Tennessee? I wouldn't trust him with a ten-foot pole. Good Grief, since we HAVE to find a new coach, then look outside the box (beyond that 500 mile radius) and consider the whole country for a head football coach. And, just bc some guy is making great headlines today doesn't mean they will make great headlines tomorrow. I just have a gut feeling that the head coaching job will become a revolving door for some time to come. Coach Fulmer ~~~> THANK YOU for your contributions to the University of Tennessee.

First of all, I appreciate all that Coach Fulmer has done for UT. He truly bleeds orange. Having said that, It was time for him to go. Hamilton did the right thing even though it was a tough call. For those of you who want Spurrier, he would not succeed here because he doesn't recruit well. He has proven that. He did great a Florida because he had more than enough players in his backyard. If Steve came here we would be about like South Carolina. That is not acceptable. I think Butch would be a good fit, but I would really like to see Mike Leach. He has proven he can run an offense in the SEC, and with our defense we could be tough to beat. Boise St. coach is another that I would look at. And for pete's sake, please get rid of our defensive backs coach. Also, Dave Clawson should be telling everyone that he did not have control; that Fulmer was running the offense. Clawson will end up somewhere else and look like a genius because Fulmer wouldn't allow him to run things here.

Cower! He would bring something totally different to the program. Dump Clawson, and try to keep our defensive coaches. And recruit an outstanding quarterback.

I would like to see the AD Mike Hamiliton fired, Philip Fulmer hired as AD, and give him the job of finding his replacement.

I appreciate the love and dedicated service the Phil Fulmer has laid on the line for the University of Tennessee! There is no question that he loves and appreciates UT for the life he has been able to experience there! He is a class act. Within his first years as a head coach he was able to instill that passion into the majority of his players. That was proven by their rabid work ethics. They put it all on the line and wanted success or else! But somewhere along the line, that fire was transmitting to fewer and fewer of the players! There was not enough of them laying it all on the line! We could play the blame game for years, as to why this team has fallen to this all time low. Just as we have seen with the transformation of our basketball program, a team has to buy in to their coaches philosophy and lay it all on the line! Phil lost his magic wand. I'm sorry for him, and thought he would be the next Bear Bryant. The University of Alabama is partly responsible for his problems lawsuit

Surely Tennessee has in it's "stable" a QB that's better than Crompton and Stephens! Why not give one of those guys a shot? What have you got to lose? If he can throw the ball, and hand off the ball, what else do you have to do to be better than Heckle or Jeckle?

Why hasn't Hamilton talked with Pete Carroll at Southern California? He would be a perfect fit here what with USC treating him somewhat like Hamilton treated Fulmer. Hamilton's a slimy little toad that gives the University of Tennessee a bad reputation! If you're going to "clean house," don't forget that little worm! Good luck to Coach Fulmer!

I think none of this should have transpired before the season end. since it has i would like to see a truly innovative coach like Mike Leach. he is 47 yrs old and is a winner and w/no name B Ps until he gets them.Has time on his side,Tex T 9gm avg. Long live coach Fullmer 150 games
