KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- $650,000 in fake merchandise was confiscated at 10 Knoxville-area businesses on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

KPD says, "The counterfeit merchandise consisted of various items including handbags, assorted jewelry, sunglasses and designer cell phone cases."

Police say many of the fake handbags are copies of brand name products by Coach, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dooney & Bourke, Prada and Gucci.

"The confiscation of these counterfeit items will help prevent the public from being victimized while they conduct their Christmas shopping," Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen says.

Knoxville Police claim they confiscated the bogus goods but refused to let the news media actually see them! Then, KPD refuses to reveal the offending stores? Unbelieveable! I have lived in cities where the local news media would not tolerate this level of ineptitude. Might this be another Darrell DeBusk Debacle? Or, is this simply another case of Knoxville news media singing "The Bend Over Blues?" Maybe KPD is in need of some new blood in its PUBLIC (that is P-U-B-L-I-C) INFORMATION department? Disclosure and the truth are good things. I think the Knoxville news media should at least be able to prove what happened to the bogus material, where it came from and assure us it didn't end up on Santa's sleigh under select Christmas trees. By the way, have we yet learned who was responsible fore the quarter million in cash confiscated by the Knox Sheriff's Department and who rented the storage unit where it was found. What happened to all that cash?

FRED if they took the drug dealers off the street, the streets would then be empty...

Which businesses? I'd like to know where not to shop when I'm back in Knoxville.

Wow! We are now safe from fake cellphone cases. Way to go. How about taking the drug dealers off the street instead!
