KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- The University of Tennessee Athletics Department says nothing's final. However, multiple sources claim UT's next head football coach is a done deal. Volunteer T-V's media partner at the News Sentinel's GoVolsXtra.com say former Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin likely will get the job.
UT's Athletics' Director won't comment on the search or a possible deal until it's completed. After all, Phillip Fulmer still will lead the Vols in his final game as head coach Saturday. However, fans are eager to share their opinions.
Scott Jones picks up new U-T gear for Christmas, but it's who the Vols could pick-up as their next head coach that excites Jones more than the Black Friday sales at Alumni Hall.
"Obviously I guess the rumors have come out the last couple of days," Jones said.
Various sports media sources, including Volunteer T-V's media partner GoVolsXtra, now report former Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin has reached a deal to take over as the Vols next head coach.
The University of Tennessee Athletics department declined to comment. Phillip Fulmer will lead his team one last time as head coach against Kentucky Saturday.
The decision and announcement that are expected next week have some fans ringing with more excitement than the Alumni Hall's registers.
"I think we need something to spark the interest in the Vol nation. Right now, I think they're getting stale," Jones said.
"As for the coaches Tennessee could've gotten, I think Kiffin was one of the best out there," UT Junior John Wilson said.
Wilson emphasized what he thinks Kiffin may be the solution to what he called the Vols lacking offense.
"I think he's really good with recruiting. He showed that with USC when he was offensive coordinator and obviously he has experience with on one of the best offenses in this country for the last decade," Wilson said.
But not all Vols fans are as eager. Some worry about the 1-3 record with the Raiders that got Kiffin fired in September.
"I'm not sure he'll be a good fit with all the circumstance with the situation with the Raiders and how that all took place. I guess we'll just have to wait and see," said UT fan Michael Jordan.
Whoever's next, Jones hopes the speculation and rumors don't mess with the respect he says Coach Fulmer deserves.
"I think it'd be nice if it wasn't leaked. I think it's unfortunate that it's stealing thunder from Fulmer. He deserves his time," Jones said.
UT has dubbed Saturday's game Phillip Fulmer Appreciation Day. Fulmer has served as head coach 17 years.

The biggest things I think Kiffin will bring to UT is an excellent staff, powerful national recruiting and a fresh perspective. If he adds a healthy dose of discipline, he will have a powerhouse in K-town. It is time for all Big Orange faithful to get behind him and support him.
