KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- A plea deal has been reached for one of three suspects in connection with a double murder in Solway in July of 2007.
Christopher Kirkland, 24, was charged with murder days after the bodies of Terrance McGhee, 60, and Alisha McGhee were found in their home on Jolly Lane in 2007.
But prosecutors later dropped the charges to accessory after the fact, saying Kirkland knew about the murders but did nothing.
Andrew Brian Mann and Amanda McGhee's are charged with murdering the couple. Prosecutors say Amanda's father Terrance found out she was pregnant and Mann was the father.
According to the warrant, McGhee, then 15, called Mann on June 29th and told him to come to her home.
When Mann arrived, he allegedly shot and killed her father, Terrance McGhee.
When Terrance McGhee's wife, Alisa returned home from work later that day, deputies say Mann shot and killed her.
In exchange for the plea deal, Kirkland will testify against Mann. The maximum sentence Kirkland could receive is two years in jail, though his attorneys say he will apply for diversion.
The court will make that decision on January 26th.
Meanwhile, the trial for Mann, scheduled to start today may be delayed. Knox County Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Liebowitz is sick and says she cannot start the trial today.
Judge Richard Baumgartner says he will preside over the trial, but the defense is raising questions about that.
