SCOTT COUNTY (WVLT) – Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body in the Helenwood community of Scott County.
Deputies were called to the scene just before 11:00 AM on Sunday where an SUV was found partially submerged in the New River, just off Highway 27 near Bradshaw Road. The body was found inside the vehicle.
Investigators have not released the victim’s name, but family members have confirmed to our sister station WYMT that the body belongs to a McCreary County, Kentucky man who has been missing since December 10th. They report that the victim is Lawrence Waters, 59.
Water’s family apparently does not know why he would have been in Tennessee.
The investigation is still underway and deputies have not indicated if they think foul play was a factor.
