MORRISTOWN, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Morristown car dealership has closed it's doors just two days short of the new year due to the struggling economy.

Lifetime Kia of Morristown shut their doors abruptly on Tuesday.

"It’s just a business decision," said George Edrington, Lifetime Kia’s Chief Operating Officer. "The Feds helped out Wall Street but not on Main Street, including the consumer."

According to the COO, banks weren't lending money to consumers and not enough people were buying cars to stay in business.

"It just wasn't a wise investment to continue operations," he said.

Fifty employees lost their jobs when the dealership closed for good on Tuesday. They had employed 110 people at the height of operations.

Lifetime Kia is owned by Mark Nadler and according to company officials the showroom in Murphy, North Carolina will remain open. He made it clear he wanted to make sure his employees are taken care of and that Kia consumers in Morristown aren't hurt by this decision.

Edrington said that people who depended on the dealership for service should go to Kia.com for a list of authorized Kia dealers. There are four in East Tennessee including:

-Rusty Wallace Kia in Alcoa
-Harry Lane Kia in Knoxville
-Grindstaff Kia in Johnson City
-Wallace Kia of Bristol in Bristol

The Morristown showroom was located in an old renovated Lowe's store. It featured a cafe, a Starbucks, a beauty salon and even a huge kid's fun zone, according to the company's website.

This company certainly practiced poor consumer relations. Their BBB record speaks for itself. Unfortunately lots of good people had to loose their jobs due to a poorly ran business. As for underpricing their vehicles maybe you should have looked at their stickers. The lifetime warranty on every vehicle I saw would cost you as well as anything thing else like their advertising. My car had 2000 added for advertising allowance. We liked to have never got them to take it off. In my contract it also states that Lifetime Kia of MORRISTOWN owes me free oil changes for the duration of my ownership. They should have to make other arrangements.

Robert, there is no Lifetime Kia left in operation in Morristown. The lifetime oil changes are no longer unless you want to drive to Murphy NC to recieve them. The car giveaway is no longer as of this point however the mastermind behind the mylifetimekia.com site has changed it to east tn social and is attempting to make the car giveaway still happen with all of his power. I personally wouldn't count on it. I do feel bad for those customers that are missing out on free oil changes and the like however compared to what we the employees have lost it is very very small. Some of us lost 18-25 k per year jobs and some of us lost 50k plus jobs. I don't like it any more than the next guy but by the same token there isn't a lot that can be done about it.
