KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam says he will wait for a decision from former U.S. Sen. Bill Frist before deciding whether to run for governor himself in 2010.
But, Haslam says he's holding a meeting next week at Pilot Corp., to discuss a possible bid to replace Democrat Phil Bredesen.
Haslam said he didn't know when Frist might make an announcement. Frist couldn't be reached for comment by the Knoxville News Sentinel on Wednesday.
Fellow Republicans District Attorney General Bill Gibbons of Memphis and U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp have also said recently that they will indeed run if Frist announces he will stay out of the 2010 race.
Bredesen cannot run for a third term because of term limits.
