KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) - Another round of layoffs is underway at Knoxville-based Jewelry Television.
An exact number is not being released by the company, according to spokesperson Kelly Fletcher, because the downsizing could be ongoing as long as sales stay low The company blames the weakened economy and slow sales, especially duing the holidays.
"This is part of JTV's ongoing effort to bring expenses in line with revenue "Obviously, JTV is not the only retailer struggling through difficult times," Fletcher says. "Jewelry sales were down about 35% nationally during the holiday sales period."
JTV currently employs about 1,300 people.
In early 2008, the company employed as many as 2,000 people.
