Newport Police still searching for missing woman after car found burned
Newport police are still looking for a 19-year-old woman whose car was found destroyed by fire along a highway in Cocke County, Newport Police Chief J. Maurice Shults says.

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Newport police are still looking for a 19-year-old woman whose car was found destroyed by fire along a highway in Cocke County, Newport Police Chief J. Maurice Shults says.

Shults says Megan Maxwell was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and bluejeans with large holes in them. She hasn't been heard from since around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, the police chief says. Maxwell is 5'6" tall and weights about 115 pounds.

Her car, a red 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse, was found burnt on East Highway 25/70.

Anyone with information about Maxwell's whereabouts or the fire that destroyed her car is asked to call the Newport Police Department at 423-623-5556 ext. 105 or the District Attorney's office at 423-623-1285.
