KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The family of an Alabama waitress murdered in a West Knoxville motel has reached a multi-million dollar out-of-court settlement in their civil lawsuit over her death.
Details of the settlement will never be made public, but an attorney for Jennifer Hampton's parents say it's more than $10 million.
"This is just one part of the case that's over," said Attorney C. Eddie Daniel, the Hampton family attorney. "Now the criminal process will continue, and the family plans to be at every hearing."
Hampton was raped and killed in her room at the Days Inn on Lovell Road in West Knoxville last September.
Her body was then dumped into the Clinch River.
A motel employee, an illegal alien identified as Valentino Miranda, has been indicted in the rape and slaying.
He'll be arraigned on the charges Thursday.
The lawsuit will be paid by Days Inn, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, and Turkey Creek Hospitality run by Nitel Patel.
Daniel says, "No amount of money the family ever receives will replace the loss of their beloved Jenny and everything she meant to them."
