Fire forces evacuation at Maynardville Elem.; no injuries, fire out
MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A fire apparently ignited Thursday morning in a portable building at Maynardville Elementary School, but dispatchers say the fire was quickly put out, leaving only smoke in the area. MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A fire apparently ignited Thursday morning in a portable building at Maynardville Elementary School, but dispatchers say the fire was quickly put out, leaving only smoke in the area.
Sources say it started in a heating and air conditioning unit connected to the portable classroom around 10:06 a.m., and the entire school was evacuated for about half an hour as a precaution.
A teacher reported heavy smoke in the class room, but there were no students inside.
There were no injuries.
The school is located at 615 Main St. in Maynardville
