KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The City of Knoxville has been named to AOL.com Travel’s top 10 list of the most affordable “One-Night Getaway” vacation destinations in the nation for less than $150.
According to AOL.com Travel, “Knoxville is a destination full of free or nearly free activities.” They suggest visitors take the city’s Cradle of Country Music walking tour, stop by the downtown visitor’s center for the WDVK Blue Plate Special radio program, and take a hike around the Ijams Nature Center to catch glimpses of wildlife.
For lunch they list the “authentic soda fountain experience” at Long’s Drug Store in West Knoxville as a great deal, as well as Mary’s Tamales on Magnolia Avenue.
Knoxville is joined on the top ten list by Pensacola, Fla., Albuquerque, N.M., Door County, Wis., Fort Worth, Texas, St. Louis, Mo., Las Vegas, Boston, Providence, R.I., and San Diego.
“We are thrilled Knoxville has been included on a list with notable tourism destinations,” said Gloria Ray, Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation’s president and CEO in a media release. “We’ve always known that Knoxville has so many affordable attractions, festivals, and activities to offer our visitors and it’s great to see that others on a national scale are taking notice.”
