KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The White House says there's plenty of time for the Senate to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
Tennessee's Senior Senator Lamar Alexander says he will take the time to make an informed decision.
Senator Alexander says, "I'm not going to pre-judge, I'm not going to pre-confirm the nominee, I'm going to read her opinions, listen to the testimony that she gives and make a decision."
President Obama wants Judge Sotomayor confirmed by August, so she can help the other justices in deciding what cases the court will be hear in next term.
Judge Sotomayor would be the first Hispanic on the high court.
But the Senate has confirmed her twice, for the District and Appellate benches.
Republicans have made clear they will ask Judge Sotomayor tough questions about her record and judicial philosophy.
