ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A registered sex offender has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a Clinton home on Tuesday morning.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said an 18 year old woman and her 14 year old cousin were asleep in their Laurel Road home when the woman awoke to find someone had broken inside. She confronted the suspect who immediately fled, then called 9-1-1 with a full description of him and his car. Neither the woman nor her cousins were harmed.

Deputies spotted the car a short time later on Sulphur Springs Road and pulled it over. They found him at the wheel with items from an auto burglary at another nearby home.

Charles Steven Morrison, 25 of Cedar Grove Lane in Clinton was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, burglary, theft and vandalism. He also had outstanding warrants for two counts each of burglary, theft, and vandalism for other auto burglaries in Clinton.

The sheriff’s office says Morrison has a lengthy criminal wreck and was released from prison in October 2008 after being convicted of burglary and sexual battery. Those convictions came for a series of incidents that occurred in the Woodland community of Oak Ridge in the fall of 2005. In those cases, he was convicted of breaking into homes and sexually assaulting a pair of women.

Morrison is being held at the Anderson County Detention facility on a $132,500 bond.

The investigation is still ongoing and the sheriff’s office says other charges could be filed.
