KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The top 10 list of prospective Knox County Election Administrators released last week by the Knox County Election Commission inaccurately listed William Ailor and omitted B. Belinda Jones, according to a news release from Election Commission Chairman Chris Heagerty.
The Knox County Election Commission initially released their top 10 list of potential candidates for the Knox County Administrator of Elections position on June 17, and current Democratic administrator Greg Mackay tops the list. The five-member commission that will pick the administrator is made up of three Republicans and two Democrats.
Commissioners were asked to rank all of the applicants and submit their ranked list to the Heagerty, who then added together the numeric value of each candidates' ranking from each commissioner to generate the the overall top 10 list, with the candidate with the lowest number after the tally getting the highest ranking. Heagerty says an error reportedly led to the incorrect top 10 list being released on the Election Commission's Web site, KnoxVotes.org.
Each of the five election commissioners can add a name for consideration in addition to the list of top 10 candidates.
Already, Heagerty has chosen to keep Ailor on the list of applicants to be interviewed, and Commissioner Cameron Brooks and Commissioner Bob Bowman have each asked that Gary Drinnen be interviewed, as well.
Here's the updated list:
