KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- After tragedy this weekend, a Powell church family is mourning the death of one of its youngest members.
3-year-old Patrick Bradbury drowned at Carl Cowan Park Sunday evening while attending a birthday party.
Patrick's father is a youth pastor at New Covenant Fellowship church, so many church members went to the park Sunday night to pray for the Bradburys and the loss of Patrick, who is number three of four boys.
Everyone Volunteer TV spoke with said the family is strong.
But nothing tests your faith like the death of a child.
"I think what we can take away from this situation, is we see a family that in good times and in bad times they are so strong," Amy Tiebout, a family friend said. "It's remarkable. They are a family that something like this isn't going to tear them apart. It's going to make them stronger."
Sometimes the unimaginable does happen.
And when it does, it can challenge who we are as individuals.
"I'm very impressed by that-- by them-- and their faith," Tiebout told WVLT.
Tiebout knows the Bradbury family well. She works alongside Paul Bradbury at New Covenant Fellowship Church. And she works in the nursery, where she spent a lot of time with Patrick.
"Fun-loving, very, very friendly little boy. He's so cute," Tiebout said, talking about Patrick.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Patrick recorded a message for Father's Day. In it, he's asked why he loves his dad.
"My name is Patrick," the three-year-old says, shifting in front of the camcorder. "He takes me at Splash Country," he continued, talking about his father.
"Splash Country? What do you do at Splash Country?" A voice asks off camera.
"play in the water," Patrick replied.
Patrick loved the water. He loved to play. He was a typical 3-year-old.
But on Sunday, that turned tragic as he wandered away from his family at Carl Cowan Park. His body was discovered about two hours later in about 40 feet of water.
Tiebout says the Bradbury family's strength through this tragedy is inspirational.
Though they're shaken, they will not be moved from their faith in the lord.
"We know in the Bible it says that we do not sorrow as those who have no hope because we do have hope," Tiebout said.
That is, hope that the Bradburys will see Patrick again, and hope that good can come from this sad situation.
An autopsy will be performed on Patrick, to determine the exact cause of death.
Until those results are back, the investigation into what happened is on-going.
The family's church set up a fund to make donations for the family. For more information you can find that here.

Wow, I think there are a lot of thoughtless & very rude comments that have been said on here. This family is truly an inspiration of faith. God has a greater plan than any of us will ever know & understand. For people to say this family is careless of this child this is sad. You didnt lose this child, they did. They are heartbroken but they know Patrick is with God and thats where comfort lies. You should be ashamed to say the cruel & hurtful things youve said, imagine this tragedy happened to your family, no matter how much "better parenting" you think you have you never know when something like this could happen. The words of the Bradburys are inspirational & uplifting, in no way are the hurtful words scattered on this page uplifting. Its very sad that you have all of a sudden decided that you are a better parent then them, this may not have happened to you but if it ever does I can only hope you find strength like they have. GOD IS LOVE. God Bless The Bradburys & everyone...

Where I agree and am apalled that someone could be so cruel and thoughtless, yet I believe in this case, their thoughts are more of themselves than Patrick. They have the luxury of self-righteousness. Truly, if this person could turn to God in the experiences of life that all face sometime...it would be GRACE. Any parent knows that you cary constantly, the fear that you will be inadequate in your attempts to protect you precious treasures from harm. You don't have to talk to this family of grief, loss, guilt. Their Enemy, I'm certain, will do his best to beat this and other angry, sorry souls to the guilt punch. But really, how do you explain the Grace and Mercy of our Great God? If you look deeply enough, here is a picture.

How dare you stick this on the parents of Patrick. Because they are showing their faith to get thru this hard time shows their testimony. Your words are whats inexcusable. I wish I had strength of these parents. This is a tradegy that they are experiencing and they dont need people like you all to bring them or their family down. I'm sure you wouldnt tell all of this to their face, but youll let them, their family, and the rest of the world read it. You dont know how hurtful your words are and could not only be upsetting to this family but other families who have gone thru the same thing at some point. You dont know them, they may be at home on their back porch crying, wailing, praying to God. You may have never experienced the grace of God and his peace in the storm and I pray that you never have to. Patrick is in a far better place now. Yes, his family loved him and will miss him but he is in the protective arms of The Almighty God. So I hope that everyone keeps them in their prayers
