There are a lot of unknowns and suspicions about this year's flu season.
Some say it could be worse than last year.
Local officials are already preparing for the nasty virus that could make thousands sick.
Last year's flu season wasn't as bad as expected for a nurse at UT Medical Center.
But this year, he thinks it could be worse.
Christian Lawson with UT Medical Center Nurse Manager says, "We are definitely preparing for a very bad flu season."
UT Medical Center is educating their staff on the signs and symptoms of the common flu and the swine flu.
Both are very similar cough, runny nose, sore throat, body ache and fatigue.
Vomiting and diarrhea has been common with the h1n1.
The health department is unsure about the upcoming flu season.
Martha Buchanan/public health officer says, "It's more than possible we'll have more than one virus circulating this fall."
They're monitoring what's happening around the globe.
Martha Buchanan the public health officer says, "It's going to be very interesting. We'll have to watch the southern hemisphere as they're in their flu season now."
There is no vaccine for the swine flu right now.
But local health officials are monitoring the White House talks and awaiting information from the CDC.
Martha Buchanan says, "Everyone is pulling together to help the public and get together to make decisions together."
Remember the biggest prevention for swine flu or any other illness is hand washing.
Also remember don't go to work when sick, cover your cough, and avoid contact with sick people.
