Knoxville (WVLT) – US Attorney are asking to drop federal charges against three men held in connection with the fatal carjacking of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom.
At a motion hearing Thursday morning for suspect Lemaricus Davidson, US Attorneys asked that federal charges be dropped against three of the four people charged in the case.
According to the court documents, the feds wish the court to dismiss carjacking and gun charges against Davidson and his half brother Letalvis Cobbins.
The feds also want the accessory charge against George Thomas thrown out.
An accessory charge, carrying up to a 15-year sentence, would still be prosecuted against Eric Boyd. He was the only one not indicted by a Knox County Grand Jury last week.
According to the motion, the feds want to clear the way for local prosecutors to prosecute Davidson, Cobbins, Thomas, and a fourth person not indicted federally, Vanessa Coleman.
All four face a 40 plus count Knox County indictment.
The feds are asking a judge to drop the charges with prejudice, meaning they could be re-filed at a later date.
