KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Tennessee Department of Transportation held its first of three meetings on Monday evening at Farragut High School to discuss long range plans for Interstate 75.
Each of the meetings is meant to let the public view several possible improve plans for the heavily traveled I-75 corridors between Chattanooga and the Georgia state line and between Jellico and the Kentucky state line. The plans vary from widening the lanes, freight diversion, installing truck climbing lanes or keeping making operational, which means focusing on improvements to side highways like Hwy 11.
“We're reaching capacity as it is,” said Travis Brickey, a TDOT spokesman. “There’s lots of congestion, especially as we start to reach Thursday and Sunday."
There is also a meeting scheduled on Tuesday at the Museum Center at Five Points in Cleveland and Thursday at the Hamilton Branch YMCA in Chattanooga. Both begin at 6:00 p.m.
All meetings begin at 6 p.m. EDT.
