KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- Charges against a guitarist from the Knoxville-based alternative metal band "10 Years" have been dropped, and his record expunged after he was his former fiance accused him assault, which led to his arrest.

According to the warrant Erin Schettler told police her then-fiance, Matthew Howell Wantland, 28, pointed a .38 caliber handgun at her, pushed her against a wall and spit in her face twice before she said he pushed her to the floor. Schettler told police she had unloaded the gun prior to the incident.

"These allegations were made with no truth and only in an attempt to harm my social status and my public career," Wantland said in an email to VolunteerTV.com.

Wantland was arrested by Knoxville Police around 10 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2009, and jailed on a $2,500 bond. The charges were later dropped and his record expunged, according to Knox County Criminal Court officials.

Wantland is one of five members of "10 Years", formed in 1999 in Knoxville. They have since released four albums including "Division" in 2008.

Their single, "Wasteland" from their debut album "The Autumn Efffect" spent more than 12 months on the Rock charts, finally reaching #1 at Active Rock in December 2005.

I have known Matt for the past 6 or 7 years. In that time I've never seen him raise his voice to anyone, much less a woman. Matt is very level-headed. Yes, sometimes things get out of hand and people lose their temper, but Matt would not lay his hands on a woman. Much less push her down and put a gun to her head. As far as I know he doesn't even own a gun. Plus the 'victim' is a 10 Years groupie. She went to all the shows and followed the band around. Somehow she got Matt, an amazing guy, to fall for her. I'm glad it's over and he can move on. I feel so sorry that Matt is going through all this, but I know he's a strong person and will pull through. Best of luck Matt! Can't wait to see you rocking the world again soon!

Kim... your 5 seconds of fame is up. How rude can someone be, especially when it sounds like you are a friend of the 'victim'.. i agree with the post about the unloaded gun. Grow up little girl and TRY and find a new band member to make your life less pathetic then it already is... He was lucky the wedding didn't happen.

i have spent time with matt as well as 10 Years on numerous occasions. nobody knows or needs to know what is going on except them. nobody knows the whole story except for them. i wish them both the best of luck. and i hope that this does not shadow the band because those guys are amazing at what they do. people should stop worrying about others' issues and enjoy the music!! it is easy to judge someone by one issue, but unless you know the facts, stop worrying about it!
