Knox County man pleads guilty to 2nd degree murder

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Knox County man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to murdering a Jefferson City woman in 2004.

Marcus Flowers, 27 was indicted in 2006 with the murder of Kym Blevins, 22. Blevins was the daughter of two Carson-Newman College. She was found dead inside her Jefferson City duplex on the 1000 block of W. Jefferson St. in late August 2004. Her autopsy indicated she had been strangled.

Flowers grew up in the Knoxville area and lived with his grandparents while attending Karns High School. Knox County authorities arrested him in 2005 for intent to distribute crack cocaine, 10 counts of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and one count use of a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He was prosecuted in federal court and received 30 years in prison.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation became involved in the Blevins murder investigation shortly after her death. During the investigation they learned that Flowers lived in the duplex unit attached to the victim’s for a short time. He was indicted on one count of First Degree Murder, one count of Felony Murder and one count of Attempted Rape for Blevins’ death in August 2006 while serving time at a federal prison in West Virginia.

Under the plea agree, Flowers pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder and will be sentenced to 30 years in prison. The prison term will run concurrent to his federal drug sentence.
