KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Vols head football coach Lane Kiffin has dismissed junior Brandon Warren from the team.

Kiffin offered up very few details concerning the dismissal, saying Warren is no longer with the squad because of "conduct detrimental to the team."

During the Vols' 26-22 loss to Auburn, ESPN's Erin Andrews reported that Warren was "going off" on wide receivers coach Frank Wilson and had to be "separated from the group." Kiffin said the dismissal wasn't based solely on this incident.

Kiffin said Warren will continue to get "full academic support."

Since Kiffin's arrival on the Tennessee campus, the junior wide receiver has been in and out of the coach's doghouse. During the spring drills, Warren "lost" his number 1 jersey because he wasn't doing the things needed to keep the number. Kiffin has said that single digit numbers are special numbers to have.

Monday afternoon, a family member of Warren's told Sports Overtime that Warren was suspended for the season; however, the family member also said there was a chance Warren could return to the team during the bowl season, should Warren meet certain criteria.

The family member did not go into any specifics as to what that criteria was.

This year Warren has caught 7 passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

Warren was highly sought after recruit as a star tight end/defensive end at Alcoa High School. He originally signed with Florida State, but after his freshman year with the Seminoles, he transferred to Tennessee.

I think it is about time the coach stands up and says that the players are responsible for their actions! I hope Kiffin turns out to be the coach that doesn't put up with the players ending up in jail too!
