PINPOINT 8 WEATHER CENTER -- Accumulating snow is expected for the higher elevations of East Tennessee, Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning.
A deep low pressure system will cross the Southern Appalachian region Saturday, bringing cold temperatures.
Snow showers are expected for locations above 3,000 feet. This includes Johnson, Cock, Greene, Unicoi, Carter, Blount, Sevier, Wise, Russell, and Washington Counties.
So the National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday, until 10 a.m. Sunday.
The Northeast Tennessee Mountains and the Smoky Mountains could see up to 3 inches in the highest elevations. The higher elevations of Southwest Virginia, including Clinch Mountain and High Knox, may receive 1 to 2 inches.
Be cautious, because driving and walking may be difficult, and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility. If you must travel, slow down and allow for extra time.
If you take any pictures of this weather system in the area, share them with Volunteer TV and the rest of East Tennessee, by posting them on Volzeye.com or email them to weather@volunteertv.com
