FENTRESS COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Fentress County Grand Jury has indicted a high school teacher for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student.
Lindsey Seymour, 27 of Allardt turned herself in to Fentress County authorities on Thursday afternoon. She was officially charged with eight counts of statutory rape.
Seymour allegedly had the sexual encounters with the male student between June 2009 and September 2009. In late September, the teen’s parents complained to the district attorney about the contact.
"They contacted us and we contacted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation,” a member of the District Attorney’s office said to CBS affiliate WTVF in Nashville.
On Thursday morning, TBI investigators presented evidence from their investigation to the grand jury. Seymour turned herself in at the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department in Jamestown just a few hours after the indictment was handed down.
“She's not hiding,” said Melanie Bean, a Lebanon, Tennessee attorney who is representing Seymour. “She's coming down and turning herself in voluntarily and we're ready to defend the charges."
Seymour taught Accounting and Information Management Systems at the Alvin C. York Institute in Jamestown and was considered a popular teacher.
She was released from Fentress County Sheriff’s Department on a $25,000 bond. Seymour will be back in court on November 9th.

I know her personally. Haven't talked to her in years, so I don't know anything. But I do know that many times, the student is lying. Maybe they should examine his record in school - has he been in trouble before? Any run ins with her? Failed her class ever? Also - he's not exactly an unknowing child being molested. He was sixteen. I'm not saying that makes it okay or right, but sixteen is fairly old enough to know about sex. If feel like the primary reason it's being pursued is because she's a woman. There were male teachers at our high school that crossed way over the line of appropriate behavior with female students, and nothing was ever done about it. As again, I'm not saying that makes it right, what Seymour did, but - - what happened to the idea of a fair and balanced system? Prosecute one, you should prosecute them all, not just selectively listen to who you feel like listening to.
I wonder, if she's found innocent, will it make the news again? If the accusations are true, I agree that she should never teach anywhere. But even if she's found not guilty, I bet she'll have trouble finding a job teaching. And that's wrong!
I think this should have been left out of the news until it was proven. What if the kid is lying? It has happened. This womans reputation is ruined now, should we not at least have to prove she is guilty?
