OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Officers have busted more than two-dozen accused drug dealers in an Oak Ridge round-up Friday night, according to police.
But officers are still on the hunt for nearly two-dozen more.
An Anderson County grand jury issued 80 indictments against 49 people earlier this week, according to Oak Ridge Police Chief David Beams.
"It's substantial," Beams said.
Officers had arrested 27 men and women by 10:00 Friday night.
All those arrested face charges for the sale of Schedule II or III drugs, which include cocaine, meth, and Oxycontin.
Beams said police have worked on the bust about six months, and the arrests stemmed from "street level" sales to undercover officers across the city of Oak Ridge.
"Sooner or later, if you sell drugs, you're going to have to pay the price. some people slide by for awhile," Beams said. "They get scooped up when they least expect it. I can assure you none of these people expected this tonight."
Those arrested will be taken to Anderson County Jail, and many of them will also face additional charges for possession of illegal drugs when they were arrested, Beams said.
"Several of these people are repeat offenders, and were arrested in the last major drug round-up in Oak Ridge," Beams said.
The Anderson County Sheriffs Office, Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force, and the Tennessee Army National Guard Counterdrug Task Force assisted in the arrests.

It's about time! As someone who lives in one of the "historic" districts which has been overrun by drug activity, I would like to give Kudos to this roundup! Maybe our neighborhoods will start to come back to life..
