Millions may owe Uncle Sam taxes
Millions of Americans who usually receive refunds will instead be paying money to Uncle Sam when they submit their taxes this year. If you got a small increase in your paycheck, you may want to make sure you're not one of the 15-point-4 million taxpayers that will be writing checks instead of cashing them.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Shannon Holland works two jobs. Both in the restaurant business. Shannon's used to getting money back when he files his taxes.

"Usually I try to put a little money into my car, maybe put some money into the house, get myself some things, get my daughter some things," Holland told WVLT.

Now, Shannon joins more than 15-million Americans who may have to pay when filing taxes next spring because Uncle Sam was too generous with the new making work pay tax credit. A credit advanced to most taxpayers by your employers, increasing take-home pay and reducing withholdings.

"I think it's part of the stimulus confusion."

Ed Ritter is a tax professional, and knows what a strain paying back the IRS would have on Shannon...And others.

"$1,800 is a awful lot of money to give back when you're expecting a refund," Ritter, of Roni Deutch Tax Center, said.

And it's not just people with more than one job who could be affected. You might also owe if you're married and both you and your spouse work or you receive social security benefits while earning taxable wages.

Shannon could save to pay, but that's not an option right now.

"It's impacting my pockets. Far as the gas going up. Food going up. Everything's just going up. It's a struggle."

Ritter agrees. "Most of them, especially when you're working two jobs, they don't have the money to save. That's why they're working two jobs so if they do get into a trap it's going to be difficult on them."

Why do news report headlines only? Nothing in this "news" tells you anything. I often wonder if the news covered is just to get you to worry about things and get you to spend your money on stuff you did not need to spend on. So they are saying I should talk to someone about my taxes. Do you think we have money to do this? I give up.
