Small quake rattles Monroe County
A small earthquake struck Monroe County on Monday night.

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A small earthquake struck Monroe County on Monday night.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a 1.3 magnitude quake struck 8:34 p.m. Its epicenter was located about six miles northeast of Madisonville in a field along Acorn Gap Road.
The quake originated in a small fault 5.8 miles underground.
Most of the region sits within the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone. It’s considered one of the most earthquake prone areas of the south.
