KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - If you're not getting enough sleep - you're not alone. Millions of Americans suffer from restless nights and dragging days.

We talked with a woman who says dealing with sleepless nights has become a nightmare.

For the last 5 years, Gail Wilson thinks she gets a good nights sleep, but doesn't feel rested the next day.

"Most of the time I get my first cup of coffee I'm fine, I guess as the day goes on, typically late morning early afternoon, I start dragging and start feeling tired."

She works as an accountant at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center and finds it hard to concentrate. "Makes it hard to focus on things. I'm probably not as alert as I could be, or should be."

Gail is not alone. A new government report shows only one third of adults say they're getting enough shut eye every night. Experts suggest seven hours of sleep every night. Gail is in bed at 11 and up at 5:30.

"I just feel like I'm dragging all the time and sometimes I fight staying awake to keep from falling asleep."

Experts say not getting enough sleep can lead to depression, anxiety and obesity. Gail and her doctor think her sleep issues could be the cause of some of her weight issues. "I've been trying to lose weight and it comes off a little bit at a time."

To try and solve some of her problems, she's doing a sleep study. Through the night technicians will study her sleep habits.

"First thing he is looking for is sleep apnea, where I guess in the middle of the night you stop breathing and then start breathing again."

She's anxious to see the results and feel them as well.

You can see the results of Gail's sleep study, Tuesday night on Volunteer TV News at 11:00.
