Clinton, Anderson County (WVLT) - It was a day to remember in Clinton as the "Clinton 12" were honored with life-size bronze statues.
Governor Phil Bredesen was the guest speaker at the recognition of this historic 1956 event.
The "Clinton 12" walked into history in August 1956 when these twelve African American students were the first to attend an all white high school in the South.
"I like it,” says Governor Phil Bredesen. “It's a very dignified, purposeful and really does justice to some very brave young people."
Clinton High School holds the honor of having the first African American male to graduate from a public high school in the South.
Thursday's event was held at the Green McAdoo Cultural Center and museum which was dedicated last August commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Clinton High School desegregation.

speed cameras are a bad idea. the radar guns often pick up the LARGER of two approaching vehicles, meaning you could be tagged wrongly when it's the OTHER GUY who is speeding. the technology is fallible. on the other hand, if the cameras were reserved for instances of extreme speeding, say 15-20 mph above the posted limit, i would not oppose their use.
