SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals says a three-year-old boy from Alabama has drowned in a swimming pool at a rental cabin.

In a press release, Seals says that Sevier County Central Dispatch responded to a 911 call just after 12:30 p.m. Friday that a child had drowned in the pool at 1240 Bird Nest Way.

When emergency responders arrived, they found family members performing CPR on the child. The toddler was taken to Fort Sanders/Sevier County Medical center where attempts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead.

Officers on scene determined that the child found his way into the basement of the home, where the pool was located, without his family's awareness, and apparently either fell or jumped into the four-foot-deep pool, and was unable to climb out.

Investigators say they believe the drowning was accidental.

The child has been identified as Drake L. Speegle of Hartselle, Alabama. Authorities say today was Drake's third birthday.
