ONEIDA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A pioneer for women in East Tennessee turns 100 today. Bromma Pemberton-Linville was born in 1909 in Oliver Springs.
She's been part of nearly every progressive movement in Scott County since moving to Oneida 80 years ago.
"I'm a hundred today," says Miss Bromma. As a new centenarian, she's celebrating in style. About 500 guests attended her powder pink birthday party Sunday.
Her annual Christmas decorations were on display, including nearly three dozen decorated trees. But she doesn't spend all her time decorating.
Bromma was the first female officer at the First National Bank of Oneida. Now the state's oldest bank director, she's worked with the bank for nearly 80 years.
"Back in the time she started, men worked in banks," says Paul Phillips, a fellow bank director. "Bromma was a person that broke the glass ceiling for a lot of women in banking in Tennessee."
She also started the Scott County Girl Scouts, and has served on the boards of dozens of groups, including the University of Tennessee's Development Council.
"She's like the mother to everyone in this community," says Phillips. "I feel really blessed to know someone of that quality," says her niece, Brenda Sue Parnell.
To friends and family, she's best known for her butterflies. "Many years ago I heard if a butterfly lands on your shoulder, it brings you good luck," says Bromma. "I let one on my shoulder each morning when I get up, and up to now, it's worked of course."
Bromma started opening her house for Christmas guests on her 80th birthday. Since then she's continued to welcome thousands each year to what she calls, "Winter Wonderland."
