MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) -- An expected drop to frigid temperatures in Tennessee won't last long.
National Weather Service forecaster Loren Marz at the agency's Morristown office said the cold snap is chasing storms that produced strong wind and heavy rain across the state this week.
Friday morning lows were forecast to dip into the mid-teens to low 20s statewide.
The NWS forecasts predicted lows of 15 in the Tri-Cities, 16 for Knoxville, 21 in Nashville and 23 for Memphis and Chattanooga. Outlying areas, away from the cities, could see even lower readings.
Temperatures were expected to rebound Friday, rising into the 40s at most spots and a weak system could produce precipitation over the weekend, but it should be warm enough for that to be rain.
