Fallen Marine leaves behind wife, daughter in Roane County

ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A U.S. Marine killed over the weekend in Afghanistan had close ties to East Tennessee.
The Department of Defense confirms Sgt. Daniel M. Angus, 28 of Thonotosassa, Florida was killed by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in the Helmand province on Jan. 24.
Angus was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He had previously served on two combat tours of duty in Iraq.
Friends told WVLT Volunteer TV News on Wednesday night that Angus was married to the former Beth Hughes on Ten Mile. Their wedding took place just before his deployment in December 2009. The couple had one child, a little girl named Kaitlyn.
Beth Angus was raising their little girl in Kingston during her husband’s deployment. Her family still lives in Roane County.
According to friends, Angus was at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware on Wednesday night awaiting the arrival of her husband’s body from overseas.
Funeral arrangements for Sgt. Angus will be held in Riverview, Florida. He’ll be laid to rest with full military honors at Florida National Cemetery.
