KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- There are very special moments in life that U.S. Soldiers often have to miss when they join the Service.
Unfortunately, these often include birthdays, holidays and anniversaries, and sadly enough, even the birth of their own children.
But Tuesday, only Volunteer TV's Michele Silva was at McGhee Tyson airport for a very special arrival.
Brittany McDonough had her hands full with her two boys while awaiting the arrival of her husband, Staff Sergeant Matthew McDonough.
The soldier has been serving with the 278th Regimental Combat team. He was in Iraq during the birth of their baby, Luke.
"It's something you do as a couple," Brittany says. "Something you should experience together. It was hard with him not being here."
But mommy was all smiles when daddy met his first born son Luke, who was just three days old, all bundled up army style.
Matthew says, "Oh it's great. I couldn't wait to get home and see my baby."
It was the arrival the family has been waiting for, but what's sweeter than a soldier coming home form overseas to meet his baby for the first time? Two soldiers coming home to meet both their babies for the first time ever.
That's what happened Tuesday.
"I'm excited for him to meet his daughter," Tiffany McClung said.
It was tears and cheers.
Three-month-old Alexis took a snooze while waiting for her father's arrival from Afghanistan, but she was bright eyed when her daddy, Specialist Chase Cahill with the 82nd Airborne Division first laid eyes on her.
"She's beautiful," Chase says. "She gets her looks from her mom, though. She's got my elbows, that's all she needs of mine."
It was the soonest Cahill could come home.
"I'm here now, that's all that matters, and (I'll) enjoy these next two weeks."
And that means Tiffany, Chase and baby Alexis head back to Cosby to get married.
And in Dandridge, the McDonoughs will be down with some QT.
"Just relax and spend as much time with the babies as I can," Matthew says.
Both soldiers agree they will cherish every moment, knowing when it's time to return to duty that they have a job to do.
Sergeant McDonough is scheduled to be home from his tour in Iraq in June, meanwhile, Specialist Cahill isn't sure when he will be back from Afghanistan.
