KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The two westbound lanes of Middlebrook Pike were closed temporarily Thursday morning as Knoxville Firefighters battled a fire that erupted just after 10:00 at an oil disposal depot near Ed Shouse Rd., according to Knoxville Fire Capt. D.J. Corcoran.

Initial reports to 911 dispatchers indicated that a fire had ignited outside of a building at the Enterprise Oil site located at 5201 North Middlebrook Pike.

According to their Web site, the Enterprise Oil facility "is a combination of storage and processing tanks. In our process used oil is heated, chemically treated, and filtered to produce a cleaner and more easily burned on-spec industrial fuel."

A Knoxville Fire Department Hazardous Materials unit was dispatched to the scene.

It's not clear what started the blaze.

Volunteer TV News has a crew on the scene and will have a complete update on Volunteer TV News at Noon and up-to-the-minute updates on VolunteerTV.com.

I work next door to this fire and there was a strong odor of gasoline just before an explosion and then the fire. At least 2 co-workers felt the explosion looked out the door at work and saw the flames. We evacuated our building as a precaution.
