MORGAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A maximum security prison in East Tennessee remained on lock down late Friday night after several corrections officers were injured in two separate fights among inmates.

Tennessee Department of Correction Spokeswoman Dorinda Carter told Volunteer TV News that five officers at the Morgan County Correctional Complex in Wartburg were injured during the fights. The first happened around 2:00 p.m. in a recreation yard and was followed by a second in one of the prison’s housing units. In both fights, the officers were injured while trying to break up inmates.

All five correctional officers were treated for their injuries and according to TDOC officials; none of them were seriously hurt.

The inmates involved in the fights will face disciplinary hearings at some point in the future. Lock down was expected to be lifted sometime on Saturday.

The Morgan County Correctional Complex reopened last year after an extensive renovation project replacing the century old Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex in Petros. It can house more than 2,400 inmates and is the TDOC’s only maximum security prison in East Tennessee.

prison wife, i agree she lied big time, she wasnt even there she doesnt have any idea what happened, the only ones who really knows what happened is the guards and whatever they have told their families. ican assure that their stories all add up, i know there are a few guards who cant return to work and a few who can't even sleep because they seen that mans face replaying in their head, i know this because i have to deal with it as a wife of an injured guard who helped the man, i hope all is good with those guards hurt and nonhurt! something has to be done, and if the state isnt listening to the guards maybe the guards families can do something maybe i can figure out a way for them to start listening to us families!!! stay safe

The situation was that there are some guards there that like to beat people once they are in handcuffs. They knocked out the front teeth of a prisoner after he was handcuffed. The inmates stood up for themselves. Then the second fight was because after all of that the guards did it a second time, setting everything that was calmed down off again. They are prisoners true but the guards behavior was the direct cause of this problem.

I say whenever a fight like that breaks out, get the correctional officers out of the area and let the fight happen! Maybe if a few of the inmates got their necks broken or whatever, the taxpayers wouldn't have them to support anymore!
