KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Authorities are investigating a Friday evening house fire in East Knox County.

Rural/Metro Fire officials confirm neighbors first spotted flames coming from a home in the 1600 block of Cathedral Lane.

Fire crews were dispatched just after 6:00 p.m. and reportedly arrived at the house to discover smoke billowing out from under the roof. They put out a page for support from the Knoxville Fire Department and began attacking the fire.

According to Rural/Metro, the original 9-1-1 caller told dispatchers she could hear screaming from inside the home. Thankfully, no one was actually in side at the time of the fire.

"It sounds like the initial caller was a little bit overboard, but it’s ok because we want that,” said Rural/Metro Battalion Chief Jeff Devlin. “We want people to err on the side of caution. When they call something in like this, if they think people are inside, it's important that they tell us over the phone."

Crews were able to contain the fire to a bedroom, which suffered heavy damage.

An arson investigator with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was on scene investigating late Friday evening. They are unsure if it was caused by a lightning strike, an accident or carelessness.
