KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A woman has been charged with shoplifting and simple assault after allegedly stealing baby formula from a Knox County grocery store and crashing her vehicle while trying to get away.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said the incident started around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday when Brandy Shown, 25 and a white man stole four cans of formula at the Food City on Maynardville Highway. On their way out, they allegedly assaulted a store manager before getting into a blue Ford Probe with temporary tags and driving away.

A few minutes later, deputies were called to a nearby vacant parking lot where the car had crashed into another vehicle that was sitting at a traffic light. Witnesses said two white men were in the car and immediately ran away from the scene. Shown fled the scene moments later, taking her two young children who were also apparently in the coupe, with her.

Deputies were able to track down Shown and her children at her grandmother’s house a few hours later. EMS crews were called to the home in order to exam the children, eventually determining they had only suffered minor injuries in the crash. The Department of Children’s Services was also dispatched to the home to begin investigating.

Shown was still jailed Wednesday night and her bond amount was still pending.

The sheriff’s office also confirmed they were still searching for the two men who fled after the crash. Both apparently have numerous warrants and lengthy criminal histories.

Deputies did not release either the name or description of either suspect.
