KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Our country has now been at war, fighting against terror in the Middle East for seven years.
As we acknowledge that seven-year mark, who better to get prospective from than the military families with someone serving overseas right now?
Volunteer TV spoke with two families who are praying their loved ones will soon come home safely from the war zone.
"You've got army strong. But you've got army wife stronger," Angel Johnson told WVLT.
It's going to take every bit of that strength: Johnson's husband is serving on his first tour of duty with the 278th, and they recently found out they are expecting.
"They told him when he signed the papers, 'you know, you're going to Iraq in a year'. He still signed on the dotted line. He says his whole reason for signing up was to go," Johnson explained.
Since the war on terror started, the 278th has deployed twice, but Johnson says it's an honor.
"Not everybody gets to wear that uniform," she said.
At the Ducharme home in Powell, it's easy to spot Marine pride.
"We're supporting Christopher until he comes home-- until he comes home, those ribbons will stay up," Phyllis Ducharme said pointing to yellow ribbons tied around the trunks of trees in her yard.
At just 20-years-old, Lance Corporal Chris Ducharme is a young man at war.
And the reason he's there-- his parents say-- is because he wants to stop terrorists.
"Right after 9-11. He knew that that's what God called him to do," Phyllis Ducharme explained.
"We need to understand that our troops are there under the orders of our president and congress. And we just need to support them," Mark Ducharme, Chris' dad said.
"No matter how long it takes?" Volunteer TV asked.
"No matter how long it takes," he nodded.
These military families say if they're ok with the deployments, we should all take time to pray for our troops.
"You don't know until it becomes personal, and it's personal," Phyllis Ducharme said.
"You don't have to support the war, but support my husband," Angel Johnson told Volunteer TV.
Ducharme serves with the 3rd battalion, 6th Marine Regiment.
He is due home in August.
Johnson serves with the 278th and there are only rumors as to when they will return.
President Obama hopes to pull all US forces out of Iraq by the end of next year.

Okay, I'm so greatly sorry that your husband is not watching his daughter grow; perhaps the next time he VOLUNTEERS for service he will consider this! We ALL volunteered and do so with great pride and honor; I watch my son grow up in pictures but that was MY choice; Here's an idea...complain to the thousands that lost loved ones in New York City in 2001; I'M SURE THEIR GRIEF IS MUCH MORE heartfelt; So, while MEN and WOMEN who VOLUNTEERED are fulfilling our commitment to the one country that truly represents freedom, how about you (who obviously would never volunteer) continue "supporting" us; however awkward your support is portrayed! - ALWAYS FAITHFUL TO AMERICA, US MARINES who VOLUNTEERED, writing from MARJAH, AFGHANISTAN; if you don't agree, hold your breath....you're wasting all the Free air!
oh, and we should end this war. maybe the families in this article are ok with it, but im not. My husband is missing his now 4 month old daughter grow up. last time he saw her was before she was a month old. Plus, I have to fight to get up every morning. its a struggle to get through each day. BRING THEM HOME! no one else should have to go through this!
ok, now im mad. they told him he would be going over in a year, and lied to my husbands face saying that the ARNG doesnt really deploy overseas....ARNG is the most deployed branch. Also, he knew he would be away from his girl, and he still joined? thats a little off base. she should come first.
