KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) Even though many Americans are dealing with a struggling economy, there's a bit of good news on the jobs front for our area.
On Tuesday, Cellular Sales, a retailer for Verizon Wireless, announced that more than 200 jobs are opening to staff a national call center in West Knoxville.
The new call center is occupying nearly 13,000 square feet of office space and needs to fill jobs for supervisors, managers and representatives.
"We're constantly growing and are in growth mode. We did hire several folks," said Jay Witherspoon, director of advertising with Cellular Sales.
Witherspoon says the company is adding some 250 new positions to help staff the call center, located off Cedar Bluff Road in West Knoxville. The jobs will include everything from supervisors to customer care representatives with salaries ranging from $10 per hour.
"We need people who are good at talking to folks, making them feel at ease," said Witherspoon.
People like Grant Gasper. He's been with Cellular Sales for a little more than a year and feels that he's got a job with growth potential.
"Cell phones are a new thing that's going up and everyone needs a cell phone so I feel it's sturdy that way," said Gasper.
Gasper says he welcomes the additional employees.
"It means more people, more people will be around, make more friends, grow bigger."
While the economy has been sluggish, it's been a boom for Cellular. The company is taking advantage of a surplus of office space at competitive prices. The surplus has allowed Cellular to add 30 retail stores to its more than 300 stores since april. Cellular is one of the fastest growing retail companies in the country, according to Inc. Magazine.
"We're really thankful that in a downtime in the economy we are able to have success and build on our business."
The new employees will handle calls for upgrades to existing customers and customer service calls for new customers. Cellular hopes to have the positions filled within the next several weeks.
If you would like to apply for one of the new jobs, you can call Staffing Solutions at (865) 531-9359.
