KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- As a crowded shoreline looked on, rescue crews pulled the body of a 26-year-old swimmer out of a popular swimming hole in West Knox County Sunday evening.
The call for help came in around 5:30 p.m.
Friends realized Wilmer Alvarez was missing.
He apparently swam out to a buoy, then went under.
Rescuers went to work immediately on boats, and sent divers in the water.
Alverez went missing close to the shore of The Cove at Concord Park where the water is about 15 feet deep.
"The water's murky so they searched mostly by hand and by feel. The visibility is very poor," Lt. Rick Conley with the Rural Metro Fire Department explained.
Rescuers pulled Alverez from the water a few hours later.
Alverez is from Honduras.
Investigators believe this was an accident and not foul play.
