Knoxville (WVLT) - Monday was not the first time Taylor Olson's found himself in handcuffs. His criminal history spans back three years and across both Knox and Sevier counties. It includes charges of credit card fraud, reckless driving, and harassment.

Volunteer TV's Mike McCarthy's been looking into his criminal history.

Knox County Sheriff's deputies arrested Olson in the West Town Mall parking lot on Friday. This may not be his first run- in with the law, but it is the most serious.

In cuffs and in tears, Taylor Olson speaks for himself.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to," Olson said.

He's charged with brutally stabbing Johnia Berry to death nearly three years ago, but that's not all.

"I understood the whole robbery thing as a possibility, but I never would have thought of this guy as a killer," burglary victim identified as "Aaron" said.

This burglary victim doesn't want his face shown, but Olson's charged with stealing $6,500 dollars worth of property from his house last month.

"I totally forgot about the face and everything until I saw the picture they showed me when they got the positive match on the prints from my house," Aaron said.

He never knew Olson, but worked with his girlfriend and had the couple over for a party of few months ago.

"From what I remember he seemed like just any other person," Aaron said.

Olson's criminal history spans three years and stretches across both Knox and Sevier Counties. He was charged with credit card fraud in 2004. Then in 2005, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft. Later in 2004, he was charged with harassment. He was convicted this July. Also in 2005, he pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

"I'm not used to things happening like that so close," neighbor Merelyn Young said.

Merelyn Young baby-sits her two grandchildren just down the street from where Olson used to live on Lynnview Drive.

"It upsets me very much because I get to thinking about what if he was to come to the house and break in," Young said.

But this burglary victim says he's glad his problems could serve a bigger purpose.

"It stinks I had to get robbed. It makes me feel good that it ended up helping solve that," Aaron said.

All Olson can say...

"It was an accident," Olson said.

Now in cuffs, it's out of his hands.

So far the stiffest penalty Olson was served was a 50 dollar fine and some time on road crew. That was for pleading guilty to reckless driving.

Right now, he's being held on a one million dollar bond. Olson's expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
