South Knoxville businesses hoping to cash during "cash mob"

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- South Knoxville is about to be mobbed with cash.

This Friday, supporters of businesses south of the closed Henley Street Bridge will gather for what is called a cash mob.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett says he's leading the way.

We stopped by long time business, Emery's 5 and 10 on Chapman Highway Wednesday night. It is one of the businesses affected by the bridge closure.

Established in 1927, Emery's has been called America's oldest 5 and 10.

Owner Ron Emery appreciates what Mayor Burchett and others are doing. "It just makes us feel good," he told us. "It's been 3 years and has been tough on us. We're weathering but its great and makes you feel good when the community comes in and tries to help it's wonderful."

The name of the store selected is a secret until Tim Burchett unveils it Thursday afternoon.
