Hamblen County man charged with rape, assaulting an officer

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn (WVLT)--The woman told detectives she was walking alone in Morristown when she got into Tony Ivy Jr.'s truck because she needed a ride home. They drove around for a while before she said he stopped on Bent Creek Road and raped her.

On the way back to town, she escaped and ran into a house on Whetsel Road in Whitesburg to call 911.

Early Sunday morning, Hamblen County deputies were looking for a backpack and a shoe the woman dropped during her escape. That's when they say Ivy drove right into them.

"He bumped me with the front end of the truck, throwing me up onto the hood, and as my partner went ahead and tried to open the passenger door, he went ahead an punched the gas and kind of flung me over to the side of it."

Then, Ivy took off. But not before Deputy Vaulton fired right at his tire. It caused a flat and gave deputies the edge they needed.

"As he was running around the curve, he lost control of the vehicle and slid it out into the soy bean field."

Ivy is charged with felony evading arrest, assaulting a police officer and rape.
