NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- East Tennessee will soon receive more than $10 million in block grants designed to help with infrastructure improvements, Gov. Bill Haslam announced on Tuesday. The money comes from the more than $23 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) recently approved by Haslam and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty.
“As we work to make Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs, the proper infrastructure must support existing and future businesses,” Haslam said. “I am pleased the state of Tennessee is able to partner with our local communities to make these projects a reality.”
CDBG funds were distributed based on priorities set by the communities themselves, which Haslam said knows what they need best. The Tennessee General Assembly authorized the funds, which are administered by the Department of Economic and Community Development.
